Pig Farming
supporting families in the remote areas from Nepal
During this Covid-19 pandemic a huge number of people of Nepal have lost their jobs. Many people decided go to India and countries of the Gulf area in search of a job. People who migrate to India often come back home whenever Covid-19 are on the rise again. ProNepal and SEO are engaged to create possibilities of work in Nepal to increase the income of the people. To create jobs in their home place would avoid the emigration of people in search of a job. This kind of support would be better than just give them food items to eat. Pig farming is a very traditional activity among the Tamang community and they are familiar with the process of pig farming. Supporting them in pig farming is a long-term project and will help the families for their economic subsistence and self-reliance.
This project will support a community of Kune Kharka Magar Gaun Ward No. 3, Bethanchowk, where 120 people live. Their main source of living is small farming. The living condition of most of the community members are quite scarce. This project will provide one small pig for one family. The pig supplier will support them in breeding and reproducing the pig. This way they grow the pig farming in community and increase their income. A total of 21 families will be supported in the project, each of them will be provided with a 40 -50 days old pig. The women have an important role in the project. As owner of the pig they have the responsibility and earn an independent income.
Sustainability: There are many success stories of poor families in rural areas of Nepal by starting animal husbandry, including pig farming with the support of different organizations. With the increased income of the family, family members are enabled to stay in their home village instead of emigrating abroad for a job and income. They realize that they can earn sometimes even more than when working abroad, provided they really put their mind to it, than working in the Middle East or South East Asian countries.
