Visit of the home for deaf children
Home for the deaf – Proposal to pay the rent for an upper floor
In fall of 2017, our partner organisation SEO introduced some board members to the home for deaf children, Home for the deaf, where ProNepal recently started supporting 4 children through sponsorships. After a warm welcome, small gifts were presented to the children and adolescents.
Since ProNepal had been made aware about the extremely restricted space in this home, it had suggested renting a larger building. ProNepal offered to pay the rent in part. At that time, the home management didn’t agree to this proposal due to the high rents in Kathmandu which are increasing every year.
It was possible to take a closer look at the home and our board members felt that the children live in very restricted conditions and the rooms are still very dark. The home management made a very good and thoughtful impression, the children are in good hands in this home. Since it was casually known that the upper floor would be vacant shortly, it was again suggested that ProNepal could help to finance the rent for the next few years.
A few weeks after the trip, a decision was made by the board and communicated to the home management. Currently, negotiations with the landlords are still in process, and as soon as the upper apartment is vacant, it will be rented and thus allow a better accommodation to the children.
